I've always wanted a self-defense knife for EDC, but what I really wanted was an Emerson with the wave feature - so it would pop open as soon as it exited my pocket.

Those Emerson's are pricey, though, and I just couldn't bring myself to spend the big bucks.

One day, however, I traded into a Cold Steel Recon 1 with a Tanto style blade and S35V steel. It was everything I wanted in an EDC knife, but the thumb stud was just SLOW for me to use - especially since I have a touch of arthritis in my thumbs.

Then - somehow - I see an article about the Snaggletooth, and it all just came together!

For less than $20, I replaced the thumb stud on the Recon 1with a Snaggletooth, and my dream came to life! As a bonus, the new device allows me to open the knife easier even when it is not in my pocket, by taking advantage of the greater leverage I have compared to a thumb stud.

It fits my knife solidly with no play, and I couldn't be happier!

One of my new favorites is the Cold Steel Range Boss. It’s my main yard work knife. It’s an easy knife to open, but the ST makes it a switchblade. I’m still getting the technique down, but if I’m cutting open a bag of fertilizer or cutting twine, it nice to have the blade immediately available, right out of the pocket. The ST isn’t a “must have” on this knife, like it is on the Counterpoint XL, which is just plain hard to open with your thumb, but it’s a great addition for the convenience it adds. Because it’s on a working knife, I chose the Delrin version and it’s working just fine! I’m a Snaggletooth fan for life!

I should have sought this company out years ago. The cost is is low, the product worked flawless. Customer service was generous. I received my order quicker than anticipated. The product itself is a creative solution to a problem most people dont realize they have. The Snaggletooth makes drawing your blade a single-step action, when it typically takes two steps. Eliminating the fine motor-skill of flicking open the blade may save your life in a defensive scenario. Aside from that, Snaggletooth aides in general utility tasks or when wearing gloves, and has no perceived drawbacks - all for around ten bucks, with your money going to an American company. This should be on a shelf in every sporting goods store around, and, hopefully, we'll see them expand production and corner the market.

Easy install. Worked fantastic. My second snaggletooth. Totally worth it!
